Denver, Colorado – Jonathan Fenske, Penguin USA children’s book author and illustrator, along with his wife, Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press novelist Jennifer Manske Fenske, teamed up to create their first iPad app for children, Healthy Creatures(TM), which launches today on the App Store.
Healthy Creatures is a creative “digital toy” that children use to make collages using fruits and vegetables. Featuring original artwork by Jonathan Fenske, Healthy Creatures offers kids a way to express themselves with garden-fresh art. Jonathan also composed the background music for Healthy Creatures.
The app will sell on the App Store for .99 cents. Additional lifestyle products are planned for Fat and Appy including toddler and children’s tees and sleepwear.
“Healthy Creatures offers kids a fun way to play with eggplant, kale, lemons, blueberries and more than 20 other kinds of healthy foods,” says Jennifer Manske Fenske, President and Founder of Fat and Appy. “Children can make fabulous creations with the app using delicious food from the garden. Children will enjoy completely open-ended, creative play.”
Healthy Creatures was designed with kids’ safety in mind: there are no in-app banner ads, commercials or in-app purchases. Parents won’t find scoring, competition or timers. Budding artists can enjoy uninterrupted creative play.
“The art work Jonathan created for Healthy Creatures is rich and vibrant illustration that pops with color and texture,” Fenske says.

Jonathan is the author and illustrator of the children’s books Love Is in the Air and Guppy Up! (Penguin USA). Jennifer is the author of the novels The Wide Smiles of Girls and Toss the Bride (Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press). Jonathan is also a gallery artist, currently exhibiting at the William and Joseph Gallery in Santa Fe, N.M. His paintings are in museums, corporate collections and private collections nationwide.
